Book: Lake-Sumter Community College 2010-2011 Catalog & Handbook
Context: “Three Campus Locations Map”

Many days a way’s back, I used to turn left at the corner and pass that old campus.
Thoughts were paving my brain when I shot a glare past the janitor over to the map.
Locations on top of locations, yet, there might have been three birds on top.
Either way you look at it, that same day, I would make sure I could shop. ;)

Day 2- Who was the last person you texted?

Jeremiah 15-17
So Jeremiah and God are having unbelievable conversations, and God is NOT too happy with what some of the people are doing and saying. God has given them what they've needed and still they ask why they have traveled out as far as they did; they have turned their backs on Him.
So God effortlessly says to Jeremiah that he is going to destroy them all. Jeremiah has been all about God the whole time and has praised God throughout the whole journey. Let me quote what I find to be some of the most powerful words in this selection.
"God, pick up the pieces. Put me back together again. YOU ARE MY PRAISE!" (Jeremiah 17:14)
GOD you are my praise! Nothing has ever stood out as well as this did when I'd read it. What an awesome prayer to the Lord. I know that is music the the King's ears!! Praise the Lord when troubled, happy, sad, scared. No matter what-Praise His Holy Name! He would love nothing more than to walk by your side and help you throughout it all. Just turn your eyes upon Him and He will hold you up!

Day 4: Afraid of Snakes?

NUMBERS 21:4-9

4 They traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea,<sup value='[<a href="#fen-NIV-4345a" title="See footnote a">a</a>]' class="footnote">[a] to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way; 5 they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!”

6 Then the LORD sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died. 7 The people came to Moses and said, “We sinned when we spoke against the LORD and against you. Pray that the LORD will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.

8 The LORD said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.” 9 So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.

—-MORE FAITH IN GOD! Wow! the more I read these stories about what the Lord has done for us….OMGOSH! It’s something I never want to stop doing! (underestanding all of these stories.) I can’t believe that the Israelites would lose faith in the Lord. Really? I mean….seriously?! That’s just crazy—-so He had sent snakes to bite all who lost faith. Talk about punishment! Yet, when Moses asked for a solution, God gave it to him.

He sticks with his promises—-we should stick to ours for Him. <3

Day 3: The Writing on the Wall

DANIEL 5

1 King Belshazzar gave a great banquet for a thousand of his nobles and drank wine with them. 2 While Belshazzar was drinking his wine, he gave orders to bring in the gold and silver goblets that Nebuchadnezzar his father<sup value='[<a href="#fen-NIV-21877a" title="See footnote a">a</a>]' class="footnote">[a] had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines might drink from them. 3 So they brought in the gold goblets that had been taken from the temple of God in Jerusalem, and the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines drank from them. 4 As they drank the wine, they praised the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood and stone.

5 Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall, near the lampstand in the royal palace. The king watched the hand as it wrote. 6 His face turned pale and he was so frightened that his legs became weak and his knees were knocking.

7 The king summoned the enchanters, astrologers<sup value='[<a href="#fen-NIV-21882b" title="See footnote b">b</a>]' class="footnote">[b] and diviners. Then he said to these wise men of Babylon, “Whoever reads this writing and tells me what it means will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around his neck, and he will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.”

8 Then all the king’s wise men came in, but they could not read the writing or tell the king what it meant. 9 So King Belshazzar became even more terrified and his face grew more pale. His nobles were baffled.

10 The queen,<sup value='[<a href="#fen-NIV-21885c" title="See footnote c">c</a>]' class="footnote">[c] hearing the voices of the king and his nobles, came into the banquet hall. “May the king live forever!” she said. “Don’t be alarmed! Don’t look so pale! 11 There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. In the time of your father he was found to have insight and intelligence and wisdom like that of the gods. Your father, King Nebuchadnezzar, appointed him chief of the magicians, enchanters, astrologers and diviners. 12 He did this because Daniel, whom the king called Belteshazzar, was found to have a keen mind and knowledge and understanding, and also the ability to interpret dreams, explain riddles and solve difficult problems. Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means.”

13 So Daniel was brought before the king, and the king said to him, “Are you Daniel, one of the exiles my father the king brought from Judah? 14 I have heard that the spirit of the gods is in you and that you have insight, intelligence and outstanding wisdom. 15 The wise men and enchanters were brought before me to read this writing and tell me what it means, but they could not explain it. 16 Now I have heard that you are able to give interpretations and to solve difficult problems. If you can read this writing and tell me what it means, you will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around your neck, and you will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.”

17 Then Daniel answered the king, “You may keep your gifts for yourself and give your rewards to someone else. Nevertheless, I will read the writing for the king and tell him what it means.

18 “Your Majesty, the Most High God gave your father Nebuchadnezzar sovereignty and greatness and glory and splendor. 19 Because of the high position he gave him, all the nations and peoples of every language dreaded and feared him. Those the king wanted to put to death, he put to death; those he wanted to spare, he spared; those he wanted to promote, he promoted; and those he wanted to humble, he humbled. 20 But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory. 21 He was driven away from people and given the mind of an animal; he lived with the wild donkeys and ate grass like the ox; and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven, until he acknowledged that the Most High God is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and sets over them anyone he wishes.

22 “But you, Belshazzar, his son,<sup value='[<a href="#fen-NIV-21897d" title="See footnote d">d</a>]' class="footnote">[d] have not humbled yourself, though you knew all this. 23 Instead, you have set yourself up against the Lord of heaven. You had the goblets from his temple brought to you, and you and your nobles, your wives and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you did not honor the God who holds in his hand your life and all your ways. 24 Therefore he sent the hand that wrote the inscription.

25 “This is the inscription that was written:

 MENE, MENE, TEKEL, PARSIN

26 “Here is what these words mean:

Mene<sup value='[<a href="#fen-NIV-21901e" title="See footnote e">e</a>]' class="footnote">[e]: God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end.

27Tekel<sup value='[<a href="#fen-NIV-21902f" title="See footnote f">f</a>]' class="footnote">[f]: You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting.

28Peres<sup value='[<a href="#fen-NIV-21903g" title="See footnote g">g</a>]' class="footnote">[g]: Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.”

29 Then at Belshazzar’s command, Daniel was clothed in purple, a gold chain was placed around his neck, and he was proclaimed the third highest ruler in the kingdom.

30 That very night Belshazzar, king of the Babylonians,<sup value='[<a href="#fen-NIV-21905h" title="See footnote h">h</a>]' class="footnote">[h] was slain, 31 and Darius the Mede took over the kingdom, at the age of sixty-two.<sup value='[<a href="#fen-NIV-21906i" title="See footnote i">i</a>]' class="footnote">[i]

Reading this gives me that same feeling of helplessness and distress. From our distance in time, our knowledge of history, and the account of Daniel, we know the king, and likely those dining with him at his royal banquet, are destined for destruction. Yet we can do nothing to prevent it. Helplessly, we look on as judgment day comes for king Belshazzar.

This chapter testifies that God’s hand is always present in human history, an awareness which Christians should keep uppermost in their minds. History is the outworking of God’s purposes through men and nations, whether they believe in Him or not.

Talk about RELAXATION.

Talk about RELAXATION.

Day 2: Solar Standstill

JOSHUA 10: 1-15

1 Now Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem heard that Joshua had taken Ai and totally destroyed<sup class="footnote" value='[<a href="#fen-NIV-6066a" title="See footnote a">a</a>]'>[a] it, doing to Ai and its king as he had done to Jericho and its king, and that the people of Gibeon had made a treaty of peace with Israel and had become their allies. 2 He and his people were very much alarmed at this, because Gibeon was an important city, like one of the royal cities; it was larger than Ai, and all its men were good fighters. 3 So Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem appealed to Hoham king of Hebron, Piram king of Jarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish and Debir king of Eglon. 4 “Come up and help me attack Gibeon,” he said, “because it has made peace with Joshua and the Israelites.”

5 Then the five kings of the Amorites—the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish and Eglon—joined forces. They moved up with all their troops and took up positions against Gibeon and attacked it.

6 The Gibeonites then sent word to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal: “Do not abandon your servants. Come up to us quickly and save us! Help us, because all the Amorite kings from the hill country have joined forces against us.”

7 So Joshua marched up from Gilgal with his entire army, including all the best fighting men. 8 The LORD said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them; I have given them into your hand. Not one of them will be able to withstand you.”

9 After an all-night march from Gilgal, Joshua took them by surprise. 10 The LORD threw them into confusion before Israel, so Joshua and the Israelites defeated them completely at Gibeon. Israel pursued them along the road going up to Beth Horon and cut them down all the way to Azekah and Makkedah. 11 As they fled before Israel on the road down from Beth Horon to Azekah, the LORD hurled large hailstones down on them, and more of them died from the hail than were killed by the swords of the Israelites.

12 On the day the LORD gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the LORD in the presence of Israel:

 “Sun, stand still over Gibeon,
and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.”
13 So the sun stood still,
and the moon stopped,
till the nation avenged itself on<sup class="footnote" value='[<a href="#fen-NIV-6078b" title="See footnote b">b</a>]'>[b] its enemies,

as it is written in the Book of Jashar.

The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. 14 There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the LORD listened to a human being. Surely the LORD was fighting for Israel!

15 Then Joshua returned with all Israel to the camp at Gilgal.

Since when has the Lord taken any commands from human?? SINCE JOSHUA HAD HAD AS MUCH FAITH AS HE HAD IN THE LORD THAT DAY. Out Lord will always be with us—-nothing can take that away from us. I have so much faith that He is by my side at all times. I am patiently just awaiting for his arrival-and it will come quicker than we could ever know. The sun stood still for Joshua, just as he’d asked. Only Lord can make that happen. It’s more truth deeper. It’s something that you must believe in rather than just saying “yes—-that should be proven.”He keeps ALL of His promises.

There’s more the Christ than that.

Day 1: Numbers 11

Fire From the LORD

1 Now the people complained about their hardships in the hearing of the LORD, and when he heard them his anger was aroused. Then fire from the LORD burned among them and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp. 2 When the people cried out to Moses, he prayed to the LORD and the fire died down. 3 So that place was called Taberah,<sup class="footnote" value='[<a href="#fen-NIV-4028a" title="See footnote a">a</a>]'>[a] because fire from the LORD had burned among them.

Quail From the LORD

4 The rabble with them began to crave other food, and again the Israelites started wailing and said, “If only we had meat to eat! 5 We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost—also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. 6 But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!”

7 The manna was like coriander seed and looked like resin. 8 The people went around gathering it, and then ground it in a hand mill or crushed it in a mortar. They cooked it in a pot or made it into loaves. And it tasted like something made with olive oil. 9 When the dew settled on the camp at night, the manna also came down.

10 Moses heard the people of every family wailing at the entrance to their tents. The LORD became exceedingly angry, and Moses was troubled. 11 He asked the LORD, “Why have you brought this trouble on your servant? What have I done to displease you that you put the burden of all these people on me? 12 Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth? Why do you tell me to carry them in my arms, as a nurse carries an infant, to the land you promised on oath to their ancestors? 13 Where can I get meat for all these people? They keep wailing to me, ‘Give us meat to eat!’ 14 I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me. 15 If this is how you are going to treat me, please go ahead and kill me—if I have found favor in your eyes—and do not let me face my own ruin.”

16 The LORD said to Moses: “Bring me seventy of Israel’s elders who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people. Have them come to the tent of meeting, that they may stand there with you. 17 I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take some of the power of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them. They will share the burden of the people with you so that you will not have to carry it alone.

18 “Tell the people: ‘Consecrate yourselves in preparation for tomorrow, when you will eat meat. The LORD heard you when you wailed, “If only we had meat to eat! We were better off in Egypt!” Now the LORD will give you meat, and you will eat it. 19 You will not eat it for just one day, or two days, or five, ten or twenty days, 20 but for a whole month—until it comes out of your nostrils and you loathe it—because you have rejected the LORD, who is among you, and have wailed before him, saying, “Why did we ever leave Egypt?”’”

21 But Moses said, “Here I am among six hundred thousand men on foot, and you say, ‘I will give them meat to eat for a whole month!’ 22 Would they have enough if flocks and herds were slaughtered for them? Would they have enough if all the fish in the sea were caught for them?”

23 The LORD answered Moses, “Is the LORD’s arm too short? Now you will see whether or not what I say will come true for you.”

24 So Moses went out and told the people what the LORD had said. He brought together seventy of their elders and had them stand around the tent. 25 Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke with him, and he took some of the power of the Spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied—but did not do so again.

26 However, two men, whose names were Eldad and Medad, had remained in the camp. They were listed among the elders, but did not go out to the tent. Yet the Spirit also rested on them, and they prophesied in the camp. 27 A young man ran and told Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.”

28 Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses’ aide since youth, spoke up and said, “Moses, my lord, stop them!”

29 But Moses replied, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the LORD’s people were prophets and that the LORD would put his Spirit on them!” 30 Then Moses and the elders of Israel returned to the camp.

31 Now a wind went out from the LORD and drove quail in from the sea. It scattered them up to two cubits<sup class="footnote" value='[<a href="#fen-NIV-4056b" title="See footnote b">b</a>]'>[b] deep all around the camp, as far as a day’s walk in any direction. 32 All that day and night and all the next day the people went out and gathered quail. No one gathered less than ten homers.<sup class="footnote" value='[<a href="#fen-NIV-4057c" title="See footnote c">c</a>]'>[c] Then they spread them out all around the camp. 33 But while the meat was still between their teeth and before it could be consumed, the anger of the LORD burned against the people, and he struck them with a severe plague. 34 Therefore the place was named Kibroth Hattaavah,<sup class="footnote" value='[<a href="#fen-NIV-4059d" title="See footnote d">d</a>]'>[d] because there they buried the people who had craved other food.

35 From Kibroth Hattaavah the people traveled to Hazeroth and stayed there.

—-They definitely had to make sure to keep faith in Jesus. Going so many days without food is lke….”WHY LORD?! WHY CANT YOU JUST BLESS US???!!!” But Moses helped them at least keep a little bit of faith. Sometimes - I think the Lord just shows us that he keeps his promises. Sometimes it might take some time….but It’s all in His time. :)

This is why I love Gavin:

This is why I love Gavin:

WHERE WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO VISIT ON YOUR PLANET?

Egypt.

Intro: 20 Not-So-Famous Bible Stories

Maybe I just get too excited for things that have to do with the Bible, but I am VERY excited about this set of devotions!!
